I’m not sure what to make of this.
Kiddo#3 found Ninjago during our vacation, and he’s embraced it with a fervor. We still don’t have a TV, so after vacation, the Kiddos found episodes on YouTube and have managed to watch the whole series. We had our ten-mile-away expedition to the Mall where they got two figures, but the boys had no spinners.
Enter an ebay seller: two spinners, seven bucks. The boys opened their piggy banks, and I ordered. That was last Friday night after dinner.
On Saturday I got a shipping notice from the seller, who happens to be three thousand miles away from us, saying the package was in the mail and it should arrive in five to seven days.
Kiddo3 told me Saturday morning that he woke up in the middle of the night and wanted his spinner really really badly, so he started praying. I am not aware that the child has ever voluntarily prayed for anything in his life, but he told me he stayed awake for half an hour, praying for his spinner to come. I explained that the earliest it could arrive was Wednesday.
Sunday after Mass, Kiddo3 came to me again: he says he prayed during church that God would have his spinner come in the mail on Monday.
Now I was uneasy because K3 is a bit volatile, and I didn’t want him to be mad at God. I said, “I’m not sure I would have prayed for that.” But I also didn’t want to discourage him, so I made sure he knew it wasn’t wrong to pray for things we want, just that maybe he was being a bit too specific.
Monday, the kids camped out in front of the mailbox. And guess what came? Three thousand miles, and it arrived the first mailing day after it was sent, and no it was not sent express or priority.
Act of God? Really fast shipper? I don’t know. But I’ve had a theory for a long time that your “first prayers” get honored in a way others may not be, and maybe Kiddo3 just got his first blessings.
I told him to make sure he said Thank You to God for getting what he wanted. He sat in the corner with his eyes closed for a very long time.
I love that story, Jane. And I’m in complete agreement: my first prayers ever (when I was probably twenty years older than your boy) were answered so specifically, so radically, that I was hooked on God and have stayed that way for over thirty years. Now, some come immediately, but most take their time as I have lessons to learn along the way.
You tell Kiddo 3 that I’m sending a high-five his way.
I loved this message! It certainly makes me feel humbled.
