My current problems with writer’s block come from not knowing what scene comes next, but every so often I have the “SOP” writer’s block problem: I don’t feel like putting my butt in the chair and actually writing my book.
Well, Dr.Wicked has a cure for it. Write, Or Die.
You’ve absolutely got to check this out. You enter a time into the website, and then you enter a goal. Say, 10 minutes and 200 words. Then you start the timer, and you try to make your goal.
If you stop writing or if you don’t make your goal, you get punished.
There are different levels. You can choose how badly you get punished (I guess based on how bad your block is.) For example, you might hear a Rick Astley song. On Hansen.
At its worst, in Kamikaze mode, all your words disappear.
Their idea is that an intangible reward is too nebulous to motivate some folks, so why not switch over to a tangible punishment?
Next time I’m blocked, I may give this a try! Enjoy.
I will definitely try this. I’ve got the rest of my novel outlined, but I’m still getting stuck sometimes…
I can help!!!
I stumbled upon your blog and I’ve actually found the cure to writer’s block, which I teach in my Writing Workshops in Wonderland – the subconscious has a major contribution to our stories. In fact, that’s the birthplace of our stories.
Writer’s block is when our conscious mind – that critical and analytical part of our brain – gets in the way of letting our subconscious mind – the creative and free-flowing part of our brain that speaks in images and symbols.
I have step-by-step instruction on how to unlock the subconscious on my blog and eliminate writer’s block. I hope it helps for anyone who runs into writer’s block.
Happy writing, everyone!! That’s my two pence…
