Tabris! Tabris! Tabris!

No one knows why Tabris, a guardian angel, killed the child he vowed to protect. The boy Sebastian got into Heaven, but the angels don’t understand why Tabris isn’t in Hell. Instead God’s given him a second chance. Another assignment. Another guardianship.

Although he struggles to help this new child, a ten-year-old girl named Elizabeth, Tabris can’t escape what he did with Sebastian. Elizabeth’s co-guardian doesn’t trust him at all, which makes sense because even Tabris doesn’t trust himself. Everywhere he goes, the angels all know what he’s done, and the only angel who seems to want him is a friend from long ago, now a demon.

Shame and guilt follow Tabris like a shadow, but it’s only the memory of the dead boy, and even though Sebastian still needs him, Tabris cannot face him. After what he’s done, there’s no way he can make it right. But his bright spirit is growing darker, and the other angels have realized that if Tabris can’t accept the mercy he’s been given, then he’s going to fall forever.

It’s going to have a new cover, too!

This was my first novel, and now it’s coming back! The Guardian is going to be republished!

I’m just over the moon over this. Last June I got back the rights to my novel, and I looked over it thinking, “Let’s do something with this.” (Plus some prompting from Normandie, without whom this never would have happened.) ย Starting from a blank document, I rewrote the whole book, soup-to-nuts. I’m not sure five sentences remain the same from the first published version, and it’s so much better now. Twenty years of working on my writing skills and all that — plus the fact that I was nineteen when the story first came to me, and what did I know about how the world works at age nineteen?

I’d love to gush for hours about how much I love Tabris and Rachmiel, how much I wish you all could see them the way I do…and you can. This September, from MuseItUp (the same folks who published The Boys Upstairs) it will be released as an ebook, and possibly in print sometime during the next year.

This is…this is joy. I’m so excited. ๐Ÿ™‚

The book will probably have a new title. I’ll be using my legal name. And all the text is different. (Is it really the same book if you change all that?) But it’s Tabris. It’s Rachmiel. It’s Sebastian. It’s a story I’ve loved for twenty years, and now it’s back, it’s back, it’s back.

That’s great! I do hope it comes out in print.

    1. philangelus

I hope so too. I understand why not all of them do, but it’s easier for many readers to get it on paper and not read on a screen.

    Congrats!

Can I just say that “I know” my guardian angel was looking over my shoulder reading this news and went flying to tell the other household guardians! This is such exciting news to add this version in my home library. Recently when I moved and could only bring a few treasured books with me – the original version was one of 5 in my suitcase.

    Congratulations Jane.

KAREN!!! How cool that you’re here — when I was going through my Guardian paperwork, I found all your letters from 1994 and onward, and I wondered how you were doing. :#)

I totally need to send you a copy of the new one. There’s only one “brand new” scene but just about every scene has been changed, tweaked or enhanced. Miriael’s character is so much more multidimensional now, and Sebastian is a lot more realistic.

I don’t know what happened to my subscription to this blog, but it vanished. I’ve been wondering why, what, and how with Tabris, and all this time I could have known if I’d still been getting updates. Sigh. SOOOO excited, Jane. You know how much I loved that the first time and the second time. Now I’ll get to buy it and read it again!!!

    Hugs,
